Waterproof Basement: some options for basement dry
When it comes to waterproofing below ground, there are typically three ways to do the job:
- Water resistant to blind side
- Water Resistant Water on the negative side
- Resistant to water on the positive side.
We will examine all options in a concise manner. More Details can be found in other entries.
1) Metro Waterproofing blind side.
blind side Sealing is a method commonly used in new buildings are built on the property line. In these situations, very difficult to dig and work on the positive side. sealing is a kind of blind side end of the slab on the ground grade.
One can use many materials (Eg, rubber powder, PVC membrane, SBS special adhesive membrane), but GSB – the Geosynthetic barriers – are the absolute kings for the occasion. The ability to exploit the capacity of the expansion of the bentonite can be miracles.
Bentonite products have clear advantages:
– Self-healing properties
– Simplicity in the seam sealing
– Is it easier to work with rough wall substrates many containment structures.
Make sure that the MEC should be limited in order to function properly.
All above benefits, to reach a significant financial cost.
2) Metro negative side waterproofing
This method should be reserved only when other treatments are not feasible.
Although it has one big advantage: you do not have to dig and, of course, you always has full access in case of failure.
On the other hand, the structure is always immersed in water or water vapor and is concrete and reinforcements do not go no appreciate.
cement-based systems used for these applications are known for their tendency to crack (the cracks in the substrate below.)
Another argument is that these products are not damproof and vapor migration can eat too much indoor relative humidity causing severe condensation problems, etc. Also could lead to problems of delamination on the floor of many.
But, my friend, most of the time is difficult to dig!
3) sealing the basement on the positive side.
This type of basement waterproofing for new construction. The great advantage of this type are:
1) the many options available
2) the fact that concrete and well protected against water, moisture and chemicals and is a good thing for construction.
But everywhere – especially when you're the type of person bad mood – you can find fault. When you close the basement fault, we must dig and make a huge mess.
Now it is a defensible argument I think!
Let us briefly review the main options for basement waterproofing on the positive side. More details found in other entries in this blog.
What you ultimately choose depends largely on two factors:
a) the existing water or moisture
b) use of protected basement.
3.1) sealed bituminous products brushing.
Please remember oxidized bitumen emulsion bitumen simple. These Damproofing and sealants. In addition, gradually become stiff and crack.
Opt by rubber asphalt products. A dried film of 1.5 mm of these products can comfortably withstand the hydrostatic pressure medium. In addition, these products have great ability to connect to crack and remain flexible for many years.
3.2) grout brush.
As we have said that these products tend to be hard nut to crack. Some two-component flexible products are performed much more especially when reinforced with mesh fiberglass or non-woven reinforcements.
On the other side of the cement-based products are easy to use and withstand high hydrostatic pressures.
Some products work with the crystallization depth and do a great job changing the concrete structure.
Anyway I would choose not them if I was working on the positive side.
3.3. Antiroot (garden type) SBS Membranes
The membranes are designed for rugged applications SBS roof garden. Its mass is enriched with substances that inhibit the passage of roots.
They are recorded on a prepared substrate prepared with care and asphaltic primer suitable solvent.
The sealing layer is mechanically protected by a HDPE membrane dimples.
3.4. Antiroot SBS self-adhesive membranes
SBS membranes antiroot stickers are easy to use peel and stick membrane vessels with 1.5 SBS Weight kg/m2 and 1.5 mm thick.
The membrane is placed vertically with the side of 10 cm of overlap. After peeling off the silicone paper membrane is pressed on the substrate, taking care to avoid air entry. Some specialty elastomers bituminous primer used for the preparation of the substrate.
mechanical protection layer sealing is achieved with a layer of an appropriate membrane dimpled HDPE
3.5. Elastomer coating, polyurethane, polyurea or combinations. Produce a tough, elastic, transition crack, root resistance, waterproofing membrane perfect.
3.6. GCL geosynthetic or Bentonite is a guaranteed solution in positive seal. These coatings have unique features like:
– Self-healing properties
– Simple, no emotions seal.
Can also be used to seal the blind side.
Other options may be synthetic, a layer membranes such as PVC, etc.
