What is the Difference Between a Duvet and a Duvet Cover?

This is actually a very common question and one that is often not given the correct answer!

Duvet is French for ‘down’, so in layman’s terms a duvet is simply better known as a down comforter (that is a comforter that contains feathers). A duvet cover is the often decorative slip the comforter or duvet is placed into which allows you to create a style that suits you in your bedroom.

So next time someone asks you if you have a duvet or a comforter, you should know exactly how to answer :)

…and if you happen to be looking for a new duvet or duvet cover, both Amazon.com and eBay.com have a great range of duvets and duvet covers which would suit every budget and any bedroom!

What is the easiest way to get a duvet cover on a duvet?

Ahhh…this is a widely asked question about a skill only very few master, lol!

Actually it’s not really that hard….if you follow these simple steps you will have your duvet cover on in a matter of moments:

  1. Lay your naked comforter flat on the bed
  2. Turn your duvet cover inside out
  3. Pick the duvet cover up by holding each of the top corners in your hands
  4. Whilst you have each corner of the duvet cover in your hand pick up the corresponding corner of the comforter
  5. Give a flick of your wrists and flick the duvet cover over the comforter
  6. Shake the comforter down so the bottom corners are out
  7. Tuck the bottom corners of the comforter into the duvet cover
  8. Zip or button the duvet cover up
  9. Lay out on your bed

And if that seems a bit complex, take a look at this hilarious video by Senor Kristabbal which shows you how easy it really is to put your duvet cover on….

If anyone would like to share their secrets to putting a duvet cover on, I’d love to hear them :)
