How to choose a quilt?

I bought an Ikea duvet queen when I was in Germany for five years, that love! Now I have to buy a king size bed. I do not remember what I, as the thread count, weight, or anything that choice. I like that mine is very soft, but also kind of heavy. What should I consider as far as specs when I'm shopping for? I'll put on a duvet cover, if the color does not matter. All good shops / Good price? I do not want to spend a lot. On the other hand, I know it's worth the money, and probably will use it forever. I can still use my old, but not in my bed to rest at home.
