If you've ever been shopping with your child for bedding, (especially once they were old enough to make their opinions known), you will understand that choosing kids comforter sets can be quite a daunting task.
There are a number of things to be taken into consideration depending on if you have a boy or a girl, as comforter sets are designed to keep them as current and fashionable as they can be for a reasonably affordable price. Primary considerations should be age and personality, likes and dislikes. Your child's bedroom is not only an extension of them, it is their space where they can be comfortable and express themselves as they like. It therefore makes sense to let them take an active role in choosing their new bedding.
Kids generally like to be up with all the latest fads and fashions, but beware in case the comforter set your child likes is a design or style that they will grow out of too quickly. Whilst being trendy is all well and good we need to keep an eye on our pocket books as well. You will probably need to balance popularity with longevity unless you're able to replace the bedding regularly in order to keep your child happy. In the long term, children are usually quite happy with generic themes like the solar system, fairies, nature, games, teddy bears, flowers, trucks, cars and so on...
If your kids have bunk beds, you can consider buy matching comforter sets or different, but complimentary bedding. If the styles and designs are too different it may create a clash in the ambiance of the room. To help with this you will need to look for a range of girls and boys comforters in assorted non themed designs which are suitable for most ages to last right through their teen years.
Kids comforter sets usually include a comforter, pillow sham and bed ruffle, whilst you may also be able to purchase coordinated accessories including curtains, throw pillow etc. It is often a good idea to keep a look out for discount bedding ensembles which can prove to be a cheaper way to purchase. Most major department stores offer sales on comforter sets from time to time. Some toy stores also sell childrens bedding.
Shopping on the internet is becoming more prevalent these days, and as a result there are a number of websites that are focused on selling kids bedding sets. Do a search on your favourite search engine and you will come up with any number of websites that you can browse through.

All of your points are realistic, boys and girls have totally different tastes to comfort sets plus the fashion conscious kid may very quickly consider his not so fashionable comfort set a thing of the past.

Great point on matching comforters on bunk beds. Even if the children taste are different you still have to agree on the styling on the bed room together. You may have to buy two set of teen comforter to satisfy the taste of both children.
