A vegan alternative to down-, silk- or wool-filled comforters?
And I want to stay away from chemical compounds as well. I want something equally good for the environment. Duvet covers and sheets, I found a wide selection of organic cotton and organic hemp, but the actual comforter that goes inside the duvet cover? I seem to have hit a brick wall… Any advice?
P.-S.: Time and talent constraints mean building my own comforter is out of the question. Thank you for the suggestion. I am looking to buy.
So you want a Vegan comforter (i.e. no down, no wool, no silk) that doesn’t involve a chemical process (like Polyester).
If you’re going to get hemp sheets, why not get an organic hemp comforter also? They cost a bunch, but they’ll last you forever (and like a good wine, they get finer and better with time :-] If you live in a mild climate, you can alway get an organic cotton comforter.

If you can afford it… If not…

They also carry organic cotton comforters for a wee bit less (barely).
I have to disagree with corn (Ingeo fibers). Sure, it’s a Vegan alternative, but what about the fact that cultivating corn for textile (or for any purpose other than food) contributes to the global food crisis? What about the workers, are they paid a fair wage to harvest the corn used in the massively marketed Ingeo fiber? My guess is no.
To me, as a Vegan, caring for all living things also includes humankind. Organic, fair-trade hemp (or cotton) should be an integral part of the Vegan way of life. And you know what? Hemp can definitely be hip :-]
