What are the basic things needed to make a bed?

So I want a soft and warm cozy bed ….. To my knowledge, and need sheets, pillowcases, duvets and ….. RAS else should I expect? I want my bed to "soft" do I have a mattress? … I am very confusing ABT difference between quilt, duvet, duvet …. RAS should I buy? Shams RAS …. Why bed skirts needed?
